Safety Devices update

I received back communications with SD

They have the remaining racks and accessories for the Freelander and Range Rover MK3.

As of now it looks like the NAS90 will be the first ready to ship, at the end of January or beginning of February to the states and it will be $2150 plus domestic shipping.

Disco Highlander models will be available for D1s and D2s. These will be the "higher" profile racks allowing use of the sunroofs

Awaiting prices on Disco models and I will inquire on the CT racks but it doesn't look promising

They still have 5 CT racks in stock if you want to pay for them. At least, they did back in October.

After considering SD I searched around and found these racks that seem to suit my needs more than the SD in terms of cost and room. I have contacted a NA distributor and am waiting to hear back in the next few days

I like the extended rack and the design more than the SD for my needs. They are galvanized to boot I believe

These are from borwnchurch roof racks in the UK - I'm looking at shipping costs. I know Rovers North has carried these

I've always been a fan of the aesthetics of the Safety Devices rack, but those do seem to have a high level of functionality to them... And Brownchurch was the rack manufacturer for the CT Defenders too...

I do hope that SD does follow through and start selling their racks in the US again. A great product for sure, but they've been away for quite some time.

Hey Nathan,

I absolutely love your web-site. I've been following your travels since 96 I think. Maybe 98.

I spoke to Rovers North today and they quoted me $950! It reminded me of the Defender racks as well and it suppose to be very heavy duty. It can be equipped with dual light guards that have limb protection on the guards themselves as well as multiple gas/H2O holders. I'm really impressed

I like the aesthetics of the SD racks too, but this seems more practical for me

I'll set a review in the future

anyway, keep up the adventures and congrats on the 110!

Definitely post up more picture's once you get them! I'm interested to see some detailed shots of this rack.

it will be a few months/many weeks before it gets here .... there is a container coming over in late Feb

I'm not real concerned about the weight since it is the most versatile rack I've found for a D2 to suit my needs - which are great. Most of our travels will be long hauls. I don't like weight being on the top of the vehicle and prefer it to be lower center of gravity but sometimes that is unavoidable.

Having potentially long spells on the road or off means we need generous room inside for comfort. We are planning on building an adventure trailer to accompany us and will keep the more delicate/light equipment on the rack and things like fuel and heavy supplies on the trailer

I'll give it a thorough review for those here who possess the wonderful ability for fabrication but I have high expectations and its price is excellent. I am also a huge fan of Rovers North - fantastic business and great people

FWIW,
I have a set of SD feet/mounts for the D1/D2 roof racks. I will sell as a complete set. I'm not sure what these are worth, but I'll take offers. Pretty sure these are basically unobtainable.

Timmy only wants like 2. I'm not going to break the set - that would not be right.

Ok Ok dan how about 50 shipped for the set. And michael I don't know yet if I am getting a new truck yet for sure. still tracking down insurance :(

To anyone who is interested, you MIGHT be able to obtain mounts and other hardware directly from SD. I think the wait time could be long and I'm not sure of availability but it sounds like they will be making racks for the first half of the year. I don't think parts or racks are going to be cheap

Here is the contact info I use, it usually takes Kim 2-4 days to get back to me
