Samurai MPG?

Just wondering what sort of gas mileage a stock or near stock tin top sami gets? Both around town and hwy?

I get in the low 20's around town. I don't drive it on the highway so no clue there. It doesn't run that great so I'm hoping my rebuilt engine will do much better. (Working on the rebuild now). I was getting in the teens but after replacing all of the vacuum lines it did much better. I'll be running a my-side cv carb on the new engine which should do in the mid 20's. I run OME's and 235x75x15's with 4:1 tcase gears.

When my Samurai was stock, typical mileage was 26-27mpg. It didn't matter if it was in traffic or flat out on the freeway, it was always the same; I think this was due to the lack of aerodynamics. My best tank was 32mpg, but that was drafting a semi down I-5.

I will say my Samurai hasn't bee stock in about 20 years; this was back when the 55mph speed limit was the rule in most places, so I rarely had it above 65.

My tin top got 30mpg with 205/70X15's. It gets 28mpg with 235/75X15's.
My soft top gets 25mpg with 235/75X15's.
Both have stock 1300 cc engines and original gearing.
The tin top would run a little over 70mph with the small tires, it will just barely run 60mph with the 235's (GPS speeds).

My former work mate (whom retired his 87 Samurai with 467,000+ original miles, third engine), complained when his Sami returned less than 30 mpg in mixed mileage. All stock, until the floor fell out.
