I keep seeing a really nice Santana Defender 110 all over Austin. White with a contractor hardtop (no back side windows). I thought It was just here for SXSW, but then I saw it again yesterday. Is this anyone on here? If I see it again ill try to get a picture

How was SXSW?

I lived in Austin for awhile and built a place in the Agave Green housing project but it didn't really work out for various reasons ( bad workmanship, slow build dates, horrible management ) love Austin though. I can't believe Lake Travis dried up! Did I hear correctly that the rights to the CO river were sold to CA?

never been to a more friendly city in my life, Toronto comes close :)

I love the slick look of the carpenter 110s

South By was fun but were glad all the Hipsters are gone! Travis is full again and the project are still falling down! CRVA still has the water right!

I've asked before and gotten no responce, but... What IS a Santana 110??? How are they different then a regular Def.110??? I like the sound of the rear window delete.

Cheers

Dave

Edit: I gotta say Austin is a great city and being the birth-place of SRV and Stubbs BBQ (who conincidentaly gave SRV his first real gig) it's close to my heart...It's pretty much the only place in Texas I'd personaly ever consider "livable" ...

Santana is a spanish auto make that built Defender under contract from Rover group. The contract has long expired but you see some for south of the boruder. There really no Diffrence other that Sanrana on the hood insted of Land Rover.

AHHHHH I see I see...THank you for clearing that up as EVERY time I see a refrence to these trucks I go crazy trying to figure out what they are HAHAHAHAHA... I'd read somewhere that people think they're "Built Better" then regular Defe's??? Any validity to this???

Cheers

Actually there are quite a few differences; the most noticable being that the Santana's retain leaf springs on their version of the "Defender".
Do some research on Google and you'll find many more.
Good truck tho.

Your facts are like your spelling: they need checking.

GOT it funny thing is I'm an English teacher!

I don't really know much about them just what I could see with my eyes at 45 on a city street. SO not much more than Santana on the hood!

who is your favorite author?

I heard my HS English Teacher on NPR this week, the subject was; what books did you read or do you teach that should be part of E.Lit or what book influenced your HS experience; I was amazed to hear her say All Quiet On The Western Front

is that wine bar still open down on 2nd ave in Austin?

love that place, owner is incredibly generous, great wine, great food, ooo and good desserts

you know where the best Indian food is in the city don't you? :)

I am no expert. Readers Digest version:

Santana started building rovers under contract from Land Rover - I think they initially may have been CKD kits (Boxed Rovers that needed put together) - then they started manufacture under contract. Eventually the contract ran out and they continued making them but eventually they started adding their own "improvements" - different engines, body changes etc. There was even a Santana Series IIIa - of which there was no LR of that vintage (unless you count the Stage I). Santana's retained leaf springs and I am not sure if they ever put coils under their "rover". In the latest LRE (I think) there is a guy that took a 109 Series III and married it to a Santana and kind of goes over the differences. I believe the Santana 110 was discontinued in the early '90's.

Don't quote me and that is from memory. The mendo list was having discussions regarding a "LR" that popped up on the 'bay. It was an interesting conversation.
