I finally acquired all the steel I need and completed phase one on the bumper

Phase I:
I used 2x4 box tube and 1/8" plate
Below is the basic plan I drew up in paint
Shackle mounts are 1" thick plate

Then all the pieces lay-ed out

This is what I was shooting for. I wanted to utilize the end caps to keep it stock looking.

Got a little further with it

I was able to ditch the hitch and finally install the gas tank skid plate that never fit before. It still has some tweaks to do but it is about done. As an added bonus I reinstalled the rear wiper... YES!!

I still have to redirect the exhaust and weld in two more nut certs to complete it. Then I can move on to phase II. The tire swing.

That's very cool. I envy the skills to do that. I'm going to have to get some metal working tools one of these days. And then learn to weld!

I just went out and bought a Hobart Handler 140 welder and pretty much tought myself. When I bought my M416 two years ago, I used it as a training/learning experiance.
