Hi All

I plan on taking the whole family on an expedition to and thru alaska next summer. I have looked at all the high dollar rigs out their (sportsmobile, earthroamer etc..)(read out of my price range). I think something based on a crew cab 3/4 or 1 ton is the way to go. My problem is I have a wife and 3 kids (young) so I need just a little more space than a truck slide in provides. Does anyone out there run a camper and trailer combo? Is there any setup to connect the two? I really thought about building something custom but just don't have the time right now. My first thought is to get something like an alaskan camper slide in and starcraft offroad popup or lvin lite hard wall? I'd like to connect the two once at rest if possible . Any body out their doing something similar?

thanks

That's an interesting idea. You're thinking of a removable 'deck' from the back of the camper across the hitch and tongue to the trailer? You'd need a trailer with a front facing door. An ExPo breeze-way. Post pics as it comes together.

combo

That is basically the idea. I think bunk beds in the trailer with a full function kitchen bath in the truck. I just havn't seen it done- yet. Reguardless ,it looks like some custom fab is in order.

I had a thought. IIRC from my days spent in Jackson Hole, don't snowmobile trailers have front facing doors. Might not have the height you'd need though.

Meh. Seems like a lotta work :D - hopefully you won't spend much time IN the camper/trailer combo - cook in the truck camper/sleep in the tent camper with the kids if they are too young to let you two sleep in the camper alone :D - I've traveled from Ak to the East Coast n back (15kmiles) tent-camping with an AWD Aerostar and an off-road utility trailer with my 3 kids - a tent trailer would have been a fantastic luxury by itself.

Come on up and go fishing :D

Mount a columbia or a maggiolina directly on the top of the camper and cut an access hatch between the two. Save yourself all the fab problems.

Good luck - sounds like a fun trip.

Cheers,
Mark
