Sedona, Broken Arrow

For V day I decided to take the girlfriend and our 6 Month old Blue Pit, "Sprocket" to Sedona for the weekend. Being new to this whole off road thing I wasn't sure what to expect but since the weather acted right we decided to run a trail or two.

We rolled in to Sedona around 8:30am on Saturday. My plan was to head over to Schnebly Hill Road for a quick drive up to check out the view. When we got to the dirt part we found a ranger getting ready to check the road to see if he was going to open it up due to the wet conditions.

So we hung out in the parking lot and waited for 10 mins for him to decide the road was too wet so closed it would stay...

I shot a few pictures while hanging out...

From there we headed to Broken Arrow. Aird down in the parking lot and begain my first Sedona Trail ever.

And what a good trail to start on. The trail was smoother then I expected, I bet this is due to 100's of jeeps every day running this trail. The first rock section was amazing.

I did a little poser flex that make me realize I needed to get some swaybar discos and it was time to cut some fenders...

I had a map but still managed to get semi lost luckly we ran accrosed a Pink Jeep and followed them to Submarine Rock. The Pink Jeep drove out an on to submarine rock we went up the seep section to the over look part and stoped there, unsure where they went and what where the trail went. But I did snap some more shots...

We decended the seepe section to get back where we were and back on the main trail this is where I realized how sagging my rear leafs are when we hit the tow hitch on the way down. I also noticed how a little red mud could cause some loss of traction even on this perfect rock.

We continuned on towart the end of the trail...

This was about the time I relized there were at least 10 Pink Jeep tures on this trail. Man they were nice enough but for me it kinda ruined the experence of being on a trail away from everyone on a nice morning. We pluued up to the endo of the trail and basically stood in awe at the views...

Damn two of the 5 pink jeeps at the end.

We hung out hoping to get the area to our self so we could take some pictures but as soon as one jeep tou left two showd up. We relized since it was getting to be noon the traffic was getting worse. So we bailed out. Now this is the point where I was hoping to be able to post some cool pics of me doing the Steps but since my earlyer decent went so bad I decided to save that for a nother trip when the jeep was less loaded down and hopefully when I have my new Oldman EMU kit on.

On top of that I was unable to really find the trun off for that part any way so win win.

HDR shot taken on the way out.

The way out went far less smooth then the way in. I was forced to back up in several sections due to traffic coming in. Jeep tour after jeep tour. Wow next time I do this will be earlyer or on a weekday.

Sunday we were plannning on heading to Soldiers Pass but first we stopped by Sedona Jeep Tours to see Nena. Instead we talked to Jason who told us about some Ruins about 30mins away so we went for that and saved the trail for the next trip.

Some shots from the trip out to Honanki Ruins.

From there we headed home to Tucson. Over all a great weekend. I plan on coming back with a better set up so I wont be worried about any of the trails and I can run 2-3 each day...

Awesome photo's. What type of camera.

Ya, the pink jeeps are kind of a pain but they stick to a few main trails I've found. The number of times I've ran Oak Creek Homestead I haven't seen them let alone anyone else and the same can be said for Smiley Rock.

I really enjoyed your photos and words. You are a very talented photographer. My wife and I went on the Pink Jeep tour several years ago before I even had a four wheel drive vehicle. Six months later, we had a 2001 Tacoma. I was hopeing to be able to meet up with you but had to work. Post up the next time you plan on coming up to this part of the world.

All pics were shot with a Nikon D80. I had to do Broken Arrow, but next time I do plane on heading to some other trails.

Absolutely beautiful pics! I love that trail. It is still my favorite trail in AZ just for the views and scenery. Looks like you guys had a good time out there. The D80's are amazing cameras. Good work and thanks for sharing!
