Square head? You mean like the ones on these from CM?

Stamped lettering on the shackle? You mean stamped as opposed to the raised lettering on this Yoke Shackle?

So basically you're using a warning that has nothing to do with Yoke shackles to discount them as suitable.
The irony of you using a warning from "off-shore", as a reason to discount all off-shore shackles, is not overlooked.

That is why I said "make of it what you will"......I only posted it as a warning that there has been a LOT of "issues" regarding "offshore shackles QC ect" and there bogus WLL and counterfeit CE castings ect. not specifically yoke brand bashing..... call it offshore shackle bashing with good reason. As I posted there have been many issues this being just one of many call it a eye opener/warning to some people....... non specific to any company brand or?. As the original poster asked opinions on chinese made shackles of which YOKE is one. maybe japan owned but chinese made

Caterpillar Inc has had significant trouble with counterfeit parts from China, India...etc. Just because the part is labeled as being from a reputable manufacturer is no guarantee.

If the shackle is from a no-name supplier and is labeled 7T, that is meaningless as well. CAT had a supplier in China. The supplier swore it had a fully equipped QC lab to test and verify its components met specs....had the test data as well. Cat visited the place months after it went online. The QC lab had some test equipment...still crated and no technicians to operate it....shipping parts just the same. The test data was fictional.

Chinese manufacturers are not above adding melamine to baby formula. Melamine shows positive as protein when tested by the customer....too bad it is toxic.

Other cultures have different attitudes regarding the relative value of human life and profits.

Oh? You mean like in post #26?
Of course I wasn't bashing all off-shore shackles because that would include one of the most respected manufactures in the business, and I'm not in to blanket condemnations.

You mean like Enron "profits", or Ford telling customers to run tires at too low of an inflation pressure?

Generalizations are always risky. Generalizations including the implication that components and materials manufactured in the third world are just as likely to meet the print, specifications and standards as the same items manufactured by reputable suppliers in the developed world.

If I was stilll at CAT I would test some 1st vs 3rd world shackles. Our universal testing machine/load frame had a 60,000 lb capacity. The Tech Center had one with a 250,000 lb capacity.

My department ran an accidental test on a Chinese lifting shackle in about 1992. Lifting a rubber mold that was about half the WLL of the shackle. It did not break, it just straightened out.

The maint crew had bought the thing at the local farm supply store.

Could have got someone killed.

That's true and the reason I referenced counterfeit products being a known issue from China when "7t is 7t" was stated by someone.

What does the 'CE' mark on the shackle mean?
Conformité Européene - http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policies/single-market-goods/cemarking/

So, how would one know if a shackle, that has embossed ratings on it, were ALSO defective?
The best way would be testing. Obviously most people don't have access to such facilities.

Really what it comes down to for me, is only buy quality shackles (Crosby, Chicago) and from known sources that you can trust. Personally I use Ver Sales in Burbank, they are a rigging company that I have worked with for years and trust. There equipment protects me on a daily basis at work, and it is what I trust on the trail. I am sure that many of the off shore products are of equal quality, and some may even be better, but in my mind there are too many questions to risk the unknown gear around my friends and family.
