I need to ship a trailer. Anybody have any insight? Would it be cheaper to take it apart and pallet it? or put it on a auto transport?

You should be able to find some info in the Conqueror threads. Some of those guys shipped their trailers from the Atlanta out to AZ with mixed results.

Check with uship.com. Its a 'Ebay'-type site for shipping. People traveling across the country will get on and bid on shipping it. You provide the details on the item, time/date, size, weight, etc. You can even give something you are willing to pay. Shippers will bid on it, maybe; or other people traveling.

The contract is between you and the bidder and not the website. Its (was) free right now. Feedback, licensed, insured, etc are considerations for you to consider.

How far does it need to go? From where to where?

A word of caution on choosing your carrier. We lost two trailers in one shipment when they loaded one on top of the other to save space.

We had about $16,000.00 worth of trailer damaged in an 800 mile trip.

We fought with the insurance carrier for two years and ended up with nothing.

We then had to build two new trailers for our customers.

Cheapest is not always best. We only ship by Fedex National LTL now.

Play it safe and crate it! It doesn't have to be fully enclosed, but protected on all sides. You can space the boards about 6-8 inches apart.

I shipped mine from PA to UT via FedEx LTL (my neighbor works there so I got a 75% discount :Wow1: ). They strapped it down, blocked the wheels and did not stack on it. I liked using them as they are insured and use fully enclosed trailers.

I've used uship ( Pinz 712 box from Jagular7 THANKS!!! :) ) and it worked fine with a killer price, but as Martyn said it is definitely a buyer beware method. Mine was deliver fine, on time, at a great price, but what was described as a professional cargo trailer (to haul the box on) was the nastiest beat to heck old car trailer I've seen, that smoked a wheel bearing and ran the last 200 miles on mountain roads on 3 wheels. So it could have gone to the dark side pretty quick. I've had a bunch of motorcycles and ATVs shipped via the specialize carriers, and they all have been great, and know what they are doing. I think it would boil down to how much the trailer is worth and the shipping costs related to it's value.
