Should I go with a 2 or 3 ply sidewall?

I was about to post this in a Hummer forum I'm on, but I thought I'd get more informed and intelligent responses here.

I've already decided I'm getting all terrain tires because my H3 is my daily driver and gets quite a bit of highway miles. But I need help on deciding if a 2 or 3 ply sidewall tire is best for my needs.

I live in Arkansas, where so far I do 100% of my off roading. I don't do any rock crawling just light mud, rocky roads, and creek beds. I have traveled on some "unimproved roads" leaving very thankful that all 4 tires still had air in them, because they definitely were scraped up on the sides. I have 2-ply goodyears right now; did I just get lucky or will a 2-ply tire be adequate?

If I can get away with a 2-ply I can save some money cause the BFG KO "Me too" tire is the only 3-ply all terrain I've found.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Raw7s go 3 plies much tougher tire if you offroad any all it takes is one sharp rock! Mts just look right on the 3.

i agree, especially with the open country mt's, but with my budget I've gotta go with what's practical for me

The more plies, the stiffer the walls and the more heat build up when run soft. Stiffer walls may also mean that they get damaged rather than move out of the way.
I am a Michelin fan.
These tyres are single ply, all steel sidewalls.
They have given exceptional service under a variety of punishing conditions.

I prefer 3 ply here in Arizona rock country. Your water and mud will act like a lubricant and allow easier sidewall punctures.
