his truck has been extensively modified with a bias toward expedition type travel. All modifications were designed to promote reliability, economy and comfort, while increasing off-road ability and retaining on-road driving manners. A 300TDI diesel engine has replaced the original V8 gasoline in order to eliminate the well-documented electrical issues associated with it. This diesel engine only needs one 12v wire to run. Other advantages of diesel are good gas mileage, 22MPG. Greater range between fuel stops, 550 miles including 20ltr jerrycan. Better engine braking, especially in low range. Greater torque produced at lower RPM. Able to idle for long periods without overheating. Ability to ford deep water without stalling. All mechanical operation, reliable and easy to work on.
