Never posted on this site before but feel compelled to quickly jump in on this thread based on my recent experience with Chris/Sierra that just recently scabbed over.
My advice: Think twice, then think twice again.
I contacted Chris about a trailer for off road adventures with my little daughters. Ordered one from him on June 28, 2012 and at the same time coughed up the requisite 70% deposit, which was about $9,300. He unequivocally promised delivery in two months. Not in writing but I remember the conversation very well as it was a materially inducement for me to do the deal. He never came through. I laid low and checked in about 9/1 to see if could pick it up. Wasn't done. Excuses were all the same as he's been posting on his website and Facebook for a while now. When we first spoke he struck me as a solid hard working dude trying to grow a legit small business so I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a few months and stayed pretty hands off so the guy could do his work. I started to get anxious in late November when he stopped returning calls and went totally dark on me. As I told him in literally dozens and dozens of unanswered voicemails, texts and emails over several months: I was totally cool waiting for the quality craftsmanship in the product he promised and apparently delivered to others; however, I am not okay with someone holding that much of my money, materially blowing a commitment and then completely shining me off. I kept imagining a game of musical chairs where the song ends and I'm the only one left standing so early this year I hired a Nevada attorney. Yes, as my handle suggests, I am attorney too but that clearly wasn't doing me much good. I initially didn't want to crush his nuts, sue him or bring financial ruin to his family, I simply had to escalate to try to find some communication and some comfort that I would ultimately get the trailer I was promised. After all, kids were still pretty excited about it and I admittedly wasn't seeing the big picture because I really wanted the trailer too. Unfortunately, my lawyer's efforts played like the rerun of a bad sit com. Chris talked to him a bit, Chris made clear delivery promises, he blew those promises big time and then went dark on my lawyer as well. Ended up filing a claim in May or so with my Visa company who refunded the full amount of my deposit a few weeks ago. Nowhere in 13 month process did he in any way ever offer to refund my money or otherwise make things right. Just the facts.
I'm a "newbie" here and I know a lot of people on this site are big flag waivers for Chris and Sierra so feel free to flame me or delete me. I have thick skin. Just feels good to briefly tell my story (all of which is totally verifiable) if it keeps a hardworking guy from drinking the Sierra Koolaid and risking that much cash, time and brain damage.
