In October we headed out to Silver City, in south-western Idaho. It's a ghost town that, in its heyday, was bigger than Boise. A lot of the houses are still inhabited as summer homes and the Idaho Hotel, which looks straight out of 1870 is still open on summer weekends. Keep it in mind for next spring.
The trail there is an easy one and passes by several ruined mining structures. It's about an hour from both Murphy on the Idaho side and Jordan Valley, which is just across the border in Oregon. The locals advised us that the dirt road can get slick in the wet.
