Silverado Door Hinges

Yesterday I had to get out of the truck (06 Silverado) when it was extremely windy, and despite my best effort, the door handle slipped out of my hand and the door opened all the way real hard. Now, the door is hard to open, and when it does there is a popping noise that comes from the hinge area. Also, there is a lot of wind noise from the top of the door when I am on the freeway.

When I looked at the hinge area, I thought I saw cracks in the welds on top of the hinges, but I think that is actually some sort of caulk that has cracked.

So, I think the sheet metal where the hinge attaches bent a little. I am wondering if I can just adjust the door a little to get it to work. If anyone has any advice about this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

James

I had a co-worker with the same situation. But, his was much worse. You could see daylight at the top and bottom of the door. He took it to the bodyshop for repair. A couple of hundred bucks later and he was good as new.

My passenger side is like that after being hit be some idiot. The hinge bolts to the door so I was able to put washers in as spacers to get it to line up better.

Thanks. I looked at it again, and it looks like it is all welded together. Which means GM has some pretty tight tolerances on their doors to get everythign to line up right with no shims or bolts.

I hope it is only $200 to fix.

the hinge is welded to the body but bolted to the door, so make your adjustment at the door side.

I went out and looked again. I couldn't find any bolts on the door side of the hinge. Are they inside the door, so that I have to take the door panel off to get to them?

they are small torx bit IIRC and not the easiest to get to and they are countersunk into the hinge so the heads are flat with the metal.

Pretty well known and common problem, just this afternoon while browsing a tool magazine I noticed an add for a company called Sure-Fix Door Hinge and they make a pin replacement that I guess is the cats meow for the truck. I don't have any other info just do some research online and you'll find the fix.
