Simple Rear Awning For Truck Camper?

I searched, without success…
We have a 2004 Starcraft pop-up and are looking for a simple roll-out (bag) awning that cantilevers back to the camper, rather than going to the ground. Does anyone have suggestions for a manufactured product (like FWC's awning) or has anyone robbed themselves up an acceptable alternative? One small detail is how rain would come off the back edge of the roof and roll onto the awing instead of sheeting down the gap between. I'm not against having to install the awning onto the roof upon arrival.
Show me what you got!

Thanks much!

Why not do exactly what FWC does? Seems like the best option to me given your post? There is a post on YouTube showing how it works, and the materials are very inexpensive.

To answer your specific question, I don't know of any other factory option to do the what your asking. All of the ARB awnings are designed to go to ground. The Fiamma options can be fitted with leg pockets for the vehicle, but I don't think they make one narrow enough, and it won't solve the issue about rain coming down in between the gap.

I had a Busdepot awning for my 4 runner and was less than impressed. Complicated to set up, terrible in the wind (legs bent). huge heavy bag to haul around in between camps and it got a hole in it just setting the pos up first time. I now have an Alaskan pop up and run an ARB on the back and run the poles back to the rig(moto carrier). It's held up excellent so far even in heavy winds all night. It mounts very easy to my rig and I was lucky enough to not need to drill any holes and used some existing ones where the hydraulic rams bolt through the top.
I did an easy modification to allow the poles to reach the rig in the popped up position. I just used pvc pipe that threads into some receptacles I welded to the moto carrier. The awning poles have spikes on the ends which go into the pvc pipes, I runs paracord through the pvc pipe to lash it down to the rig, works great!
Awning cost about $275 mods cost less than $10

Good to hear some solid input on the BudDepot. Good to know.

The ARB setup appears nice. I have to ask - with the awning mount point so high and the motorcycle rack extending back, How much actual sitting/shade area do you get? Or is this setup more rain protection focused?

I do lose about 2 feet of sitting shade with the carrier but that wouldn't be an issue without it and besides I put other stuff on the carrier like my beer cooler and gas grill which is nice to have in the shade anyway. If I didn't have the carrier I'd mount it the same way except with the extender poles threading into the bumper instead. I think that would most likely work fine. It does work wonders in the rain however and keeps rain from getting in the camper when getting in and out of the rig.
They also make add ons for the ARB like extra walls and bug screens too.

Sounds like a good setup. Thanks!!

We figured out a solution for our truck bed camper using an ARB 1250x2100 and some Fourtreks mounts on our Yakima Loadwarrior - may work for an in-bed camper too. We did a full write up on it here.
