Single rear seat question

Hi All,

I posted this in the Jeep section as well, but I thought it might get more hits here...

I'm building a storage and drawer deck for my XJ. I'm pulling the rear seat and putting my EdgeStar 'fridge on the passenger side so that it can be accessed from the side door as well as from the cockpit. However, I still would like to, in a pinch, retain the ability to carry a third passenger. I want this set up to be able to fold down and stow under a removable or hinged portion of the deck when not in use...

As usual, input comments, real world experience and criticism is much appreciated!

how about using a jump seat from a FJ80 where it folds flat then tilts up and locks against the side window area. I noticed Honda elements also have a similar fold, tilt and locks up against the side rear jump seats.

I've been thinking about taking out my rear seat and building lite weight storage unit for my camping supplies. It would have to weigh less than my rear seat though. I'm trying to cut some weight from the vehicle.

Use WJ/ZJ split rear?

There have been a few folks on jeepsunlimited that have swapped in 60/40 split folding rear seats from WJs and ZJs into their XJs. They seem to fit fairly well with just some added brackets. I don't see any reason why you couldn't just use one side. They fold similar to the stock XJ.

The WJ seats have the "40" on the drivers side, the ZJ on the passenger side.
