Sit in the CHEAP SEATS: $110 bench seats for the back of your whatever . . .

Many Pacific Northwest truck guys will remember the big surplus outlet that Freightliner of Portland ran until they were bought out to become McCoy Freightliner. That change knocked the Surplus Store down from legendary, but McCoy is still selling surplus parts and I stopped by there today to see what was up.

In talking with Scott Westover, the McCoy employee running the place, one of the best deals for off-roaders were eleven like-new bench seats he had. Scott said they were takeouts from tow trucks where passengers could ride in the cab, but since they almost never did, the seats got very little use. They looked to me like they could have a variety of uses to someone who needed basic seating in a camper, bed of a truck, side of a van, back of a Jeep, etc.

The one on display was a black velourish type fabric, but Scott said others have other upholstery. They look like this . . . please excuse the lame results from my steam-powered cell phone:

There are some metal mounting points on the bottom of the frame (no seat tracks or anything) and the bottom cushion is hinged, so you can lift it up and store whatever fits; there's no bottom to the inside, I don't think. Two adults should be comfortable enough side-by-side, and putting two end-to-end along the wall of a van would give room to stretch out.

Anyway, no interest, etc., except that I told Scott Westover that some of you might find them useful so I'd post them up here and on Mud. Scott will eagerly answer any questions you have. Call him at 503-972-0501 or e-mail him at scottwestover@pdxftl.com.

I can see lots of uses in camper, van and other projects, I really like how the base could be storage also
