I am in the middle of a camper rebuild and remake I am to the point where I trying to decide on a new skin. First the are I have to cover the sides are 44" wide by 11' 6" long and the front is 44" W and 7' long. I thought about T-111 stained but I have found a local deal (I think) on aluminum sheets 4X12 Alcoa 2024 aircraft stuff the ad says 065 on the thickness. I like the idea of them being long enough no seems except the corners. 100.00 per sheet also as far as substrate the camper walls are 1x4 on edge with pink fiberglass in the voids. now I will defer to the experts here as to what you guys think. PS im new to the forum love it.

Well i'm no camper expert, but aluminum siding sounds better than t-111.

And welcome to the forum. Pics, we need pics. Doesn't matter what it is of, could be a piece of scrap wood on the ground, as long as there are pics:)

sorry about the lack of pics but im on a mac using chrome and it wont let me. looks like its a new issue. I did add an album that i think you can see the first pic is the camper on a trailer in my yard then I started gutting it and im mounting it to the trailer. Did a spring over to get the trailer up to the level I wanted it still need to change out the tires and rims just has the factory ones but they are brand new so im thinking about running them till its time to change tires

Ok I can post pics now, This is the camper on my trailer in the front yard before I started trying to coax it into the garage.

started the demo, knocked out the side for a little more floorspace, Also created an opening under the overhang for a bunkbed setup

Raised the top rail on the passenger side to make enough room for a pull out kitchen

I am a little stumped right now I want to move the door from the back to the side but im afraid to cut out a section of the top rail as I it could make the trailer weak. Ideas anyone?

Congrats on your trailer project, I'm about neck deep in mine at the moment. I too am new to the forum and love it. You'll find everyone friendly and incredibly helpful, and you can always feel comfortable to throw questions out without worrying about an internet tough guy coming at you.

I also do not claim to be a camper expert, but know a little bit about sheet metal. That stainless would be pretty heavy, and its a hassle to drill and cut. 2024 is a fantastic alloy. Its super easy to work with, very resistant to corrosion and not as prone to cracking like some of the harder alloys. I'd say .065" is a bit of an overkill unless you are using the camper to film hurricanes, or planto ride that chariot into combat. 100 bucks a sheet for that metal at that thickness sounds like a pretty good price though. .040" would probably do the trick. If you can find a company building/selling enclosed trailers or toy haulers you can probably get .040 at about any length, and usually already painted white or black. Hope this helps and have fun!

Thanks for the info. I think since I only have to go about 42" bottom to top I think I might try pvc coated trim coil. I might regret it but it looks like it would work to me. Good luck on your project I will subscribe to your thread so I can keep up.
