Slow JK Weekend Warrior Build...

Thanks for the tips JPK. I am fanatical about cleaning my lines.... Both spin cast and Fly rods. I usually spool the line out and as I do wipe down with clean rod and soapy water. Then I reel in and wipe down with clean rag and clean water.

I am most worried about the cracking line coating and possible line memory. Next time I get out to cast some I will just have to see (and bring two rods small spin cast just in cast.)

Ah, you are more mindful of your lines than I am of mine. I clean my fly lines when I get tired of the lack of smoothness or a floating lines starts sinking. You method of cleaning the line works great if you do it frequently, like you do. But it doesn't do as well when you have let them go a bit, then they need the soak and scrub.

You know that stretching fly lines and leaders cures some of the memory coils from being on a reel. I have read of too serious tarpon fisherman who store their lines off of their reels between trips. But fishing is supposed to be fun!

Heading for Savage River in about an hour (actually will start loading the Jeep in an hour.) Have a great 4th!

AEV 2" News

New to the forum and also have a 2010 JKUR. Just starting my expo build and was reading this thread for advice and saw your interest in the AEV 2" kit. It's out https://secure.aev-conversions.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Nth02210AA.

I too felt the need for armor early. I got the RR E-Disco skid, Benchmark Evap skid and Rock Crawler oil pan. Great products, but terrible customer service and slow delivery from Benchmark.

Good Luck

AEV will have a ~2" spring lift (as opposed to the spacer lift you linked to) out this summer sometime. The news of the spring lift with the caveat about release date is also on the AEV site.

In case you are not familiar with the differences between spacer and spring lifts, the spring lift will give more articulation to the susension, both in compression and rebound. Good for keeping the tires on the ground and also for adding more room for the suspension to work on rough terrain and so improving ride by keeping off the bump stops. Also, given the fantastic ride and handling of the other AEV spring lifts, I'd bet that the ride and handling are better than stock.

EDIT: I read your Newb post, and obviously you know the difference between spring and spacer lifts, so disregard the previuos paragraph! I have the AEV 4.5" suspension, its great, you'll love it. You will need new gear to run 37's. I'd suggest 5.13's, maybe 5.38's with the trailer towing. I run 4.88's but have AEV's Hemi in my Jeep. Even with the Hemi I sometimes think 5.13's would be better.

I have an M101A2 modified by the military by installation of the A3 drop axle, it has the Huvee eight lug, eight bolt wheels - without beadlock insert - and military 37x12.5x16.5 Wranglers. Perfect height for the AEV 4.5" suspension, drawbar is dead level. I also have an A1. Great trailers. Many think they're too big, but I think they go really well with a JKU.

Thanks for the clarification. Missed the spring lift part. The hardest part of reading is having to look at every word.

Thanks Badpunkin

Appreciate you lookin out. Thats how I find out about this stuff. As you read I went with the Asfir oil pan skid plate. Installed easily and is pretty heavy duty. Keep posting (post here or on your own thread just put a link to it here) so others can find a wealth of info from this post.
