Small camp LED Lights on M-416

All,

I'm in the middle of my trailer build, which is a modified M-416 design built from the ground up. I had an idea for camp lighting but i'm having trouble finding the lights that I think should exist. My thoughts were to surface mount white LED lights in the portion of the sloped sides. I have marked red circles on the image below that shows where I was thinking about mounting the lights. I have some internal frame work that I plan on running the wiring through to protect it. Does anyone know of a light that would work for this application? My vision is to locate 2 to 4 inch round surface mount LED lights that aren't too deep. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Also if people have pictures of how they have camp lighting setup on their trailer I would love to see it. Thanks.

Part of my problem is that I hate to buy some lights online and have them be not bright enough and have to ship them back. I'm not much into experimentation with online products, I hate to pay for return shipping. Thanks for the information. I like the size of the little lights that are about an inch. With them mounting in the sloped side of the trailer they would need to shine about 5 feet to the ground. Do you think they would provide good lighting for walking around the trailer while at camp?

Shogun, Have you used any of the recessed white LED lights with the rubber grommet before? I've seen them mounted in flatbed on pickups for backup lights but i've never seen how much light they provide.

Luckily I won't need the lights for a while. I'm still welding the trailer together and am just doing my research early to try and find exactly what I want. Thanks.

The Ebay posting says 160- 220 LM. That's pretty bright for a small area light. Two on each side should be plenty to walk about the trailer in the dark.

Have you considered LED strip lighting? They are fairly cheap, can be dimmed, and are easy to install and conceal. I have them in my awning and on the bottom of my RTT; they work great. At 100% brightness the strip is easily bright enough to qualify as home lighting. I have found that I prefer to keep them at 50% for general camping use.

I think I need a bigger truck!
Check out my build thread on my trailer.... I did a combination of LED lights for perimeter lighting and both types work great! I used some "penny" LED lights, they are single LED in a sealed waterproof case and they light up under the trailer. Great for leaving on all evening if you want. I also have a set of 6 dual LED License Plate lights I use while cooking in the kitchen, or generally hanging out. They were cheap, sealed and work excellent.

Got them from Superbright LED's, they also sell them here in Canada at Princess Auto.

Thanks for all the information. I'm still in the build process and completed the Spare Tire Swing out and the rear tailgate. Once i've completed welding i'll be ready to begin wiring everything up. This forum is such a great resource.
