Ray (offroader) asked me about the trail shade and the reason I didn't use it...

The build quality is fine. But I intend to make my own. The attaching point of the trail shade is designed to mount on a spare, for Rays an my purposes I intended to attach to the roof rack, but its too narrow. As in about 8inches narrower than the width of the truck. I'm going to do a one pole design that attaches to the roof rack, full width of the truck and makes a triangular shape outward. The pole will then go center of the rear door about 10 ft out and the sides will be forced into an A shape, giving shade and rain protection. Ah heck here's a quick PAINT drawing of my vision.........

Exactly what I was envisioning with the Trailshade (except 2 poles, not 1). I was also thinking it might be too narrow but was more concerned about the quality of the Smittybilt build & materials.

Anyhow, consider me in line for one if you ever have it made or make them yourself. A single pole design would probably work fine for my needs.

I'm neck deep in my FJ62 for the next couple of months... but plan on making on making that canopy soon. I've already got most of the material needed for it, but bigger projects to complete first.
