Snorkel and K&N in Cherokee

Been planning on installing a snorkel along with a high flow air cleaner on my Cherokee. Don't seem to find anyone who makes this kind of system especially for an older Cherokee, 1990.

So feeling up for a challange I started, knowing that these kind of things can be a lot harder than them seem, once you get into them.

Sure enough, first I had to modify the intake body to fit a K&N filer body which required making and intake that would mate the two.

Here is what the stock one looks like:

Here is the intake throat, with the body removed:

Here is the part I made to "fix" the problem:

And here it is installed:

All I need is the silicone reducer to connect the K&N body and I can start making the filter holder (two part cone shaped) so I can have a water tight connection to hold this:

And connect it to the snorkel.

I'm looking into the availability of this product and if it will supply adequate air flow:

More later,
Thanks,

Snag on custom intake

I ran into a snag in being unable to find an adaptor that would match the K&N body with the custom intake I made.

I was able to adapt the K&N canister filter to the OEM flex rubber intake body and for now run with the snorkel and see how it performs.

It does have a nice angry growl coming fomr the intake. :)

Looks cool, but the above post is right about K&N- they let in tons of dirt. Look into AEM- they don't flow quite as well, but they block 99.9% of dust compared to K&N's 93%.

I just got a AEM from Amazon for $50 with free shipping. Working out great on a Rusty's offroad intake tube (short ram air/almost cold air intake- style setup).

That's pretty cool, I wonder is there is a cheaper alternative to it. $130 isn't bad but the cheaper the better, maybe I can home brew something....

Right you are.....

^^^ Im gonna say its his tranny cooler XXXpeditions did the same thing to his old cherokee.

It's a Tranmission cooler, I've have a trans temp gauge and it's rather startling how hot it can run off road on a climb.

Thanks for the additional info on filters, I'll look into them to see if they have a model that will work for my setup.

Thanks,
Fred
