To kick it off will be pictures of a recent trip to Maui. My wife, my son and myself went on the new Hawaii Superferry from Oahu to Maui for 5 days and 4 nights. We camped up on Haleakala the first night at 7000 feet. The next two night we stayed in a hotel and the last night we stayed out at Kipahulu campgrounds by the O'heo Gulch or Seven Sacred Pools.

We did plan on staying at Kipahulu our second night but the southern route on Maui is closed to do bridge damage from an earthquake. I didnt want to do a 7 hour drive around the northern end of the island to get to Kipahulu. That is why we stayed in a hotel the second night.

Next to a small fishing village on the road to Hana.

Yes, the road does just that.

No fullsize allowed! It was a tight squeeze through a couple spots on the north western coast. This road is not traveled much at all. I saw maybe 5 vehicles the entire 2 hours we were on this road. The views reminded me of the pacific north west.

Some small rock slides on the north western coast of Maui north of Kaanapali. This had recently happened due to the rain that just come through hours prior. There were rocks everywhere on this road.

Damn near 10,000 feet and 40 degrees, in HAWAII!

Entrance to Haleakala National Park. The Hosmer campground is just ahead.

I guess I should of read the entire post before I saw the pics. I read that you were stationed in Oahu, then I saw the Haleakala pics (which I knew is on Maui). Oh! Superferry. How much does it cost to ferry your vehicle across?

It was about $130 round trip which is not bad at all.

They have talked about doing a Ferry like this for Decades!

I'm glad they finally made it happen!

What about Kauai? There was a big flap and a blockade in the beginning.

Oh Wow!..........and I'm not seeing da Big Island on the list of places to go either! Yikes!

That's Superferry is news to me. I just read the "About Us" section and found out that the first ferry shuttle began on April 7, 2008. Of all places, I figured Hawaii would of had a long history of ferry service.

I guess I'm used to seeing ferries in places like British Columbia, New York, etc.

They were originally running to Kauai but it never did happen. I hope it does eventually run to Kauai because we want to hit up as many of the islands here before we head back to southern California. We have two years to do that but 14 out of those 24 months I will be deployed.

Is there a ferry that goes to the Big Island? I've heard there's some awesome 'wheeling there. Only been to Hawaii once and that was for a military exercise so all I got to see was Pearl Harbor NS (where we stayed) and Schofield Barracks Area X-Ray (where the exercise was.) Would love to go back.

Nice pics. I just retired from the Army and left Schofield Barracks in May for PA. I did the Superferry trip in my Tacoma in January. Well worth it. Got to see the same things you did. Did you hit the secluded black sand beach on "The Road to Hana"

While I was stationed there I had a shiptohawaii.com attack and was able to get things a little cheaper than locally. Free shipping to Hawthorne California and than pay per pound and pick it up near the airport.

You can ship a vehicle on a barge through Young Brothers to the Big Island. Just takes some coordination and you have to ship it a couple days in advance. Well worth the hassle though as there are many places to see. If you get the chance make sure you go to South Point.

I have heard about this and just might do it when I get back from deployment.

Yes, That is me. Unfortunately I moved back to PA when I retired from the Army so am not fabricating in Hawaii anymore. I will be starting back up here though.

Well to give you guys an idea of what I have going on with the rig I will provide some pictures.

Cobra CB radio is below a Pioneer deck. Mic is mounted to a spot just below a little cubbie hole.

IMG_6319.jpg

A Garmin GPS 60CSx is mounted in the corner window on the drivers side utilizing a RAM mount from eBay.

IMG_6318.jpg

A chest toolbox is mounted in the bed with just enough room on both sides to still access the two extra d-rings I have mounted. Another set of d-rings will be mounted in the middle of the bed when I return from Iraq.

There are also bike mounts mounted to the sides of the toolbox. There is still enough room to open the toolbox even when the bikes are mounted. I will be upgrading to some locking bike mounts later.

Using some Hi-Lift mounts (4xRac) from 4wheel parts, I have my hi-lift mounted to the side of the bed on the passenger side. This thing is very snug where it is at. There is still room for a bike on that side.

Below are some other misc photos from the past 2 years of ownership of this vehicle.

In the mountains of southern California (I CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK, 2 years and counting).

This picture is deceiving. The tires are not that wide, the wheel is turned slightly.

Probably my favorite truck picture because of the colors and lighting. Five minutes after this I would have no lighting so this was perfect timing.
