I have a two-year old Coleman 12V thermoelectric cooler in good condition. Used sparingly and works proper. I am in south Orange County. Not willing to ship. The unit new runs between $100-$125 new depending on where you buy it. thanks - mike

I'm in S.OC and interested but have no idea how well these things work compared to the much more expensive (and heavy) refrigerators. Any idea on how battery friendly it is? I don't have a dual battery setup so low amps is highly desirable. The use-case will be 4-5 day offroad or camping trips- sometimes the ambient temps are 100F.

Thanks

They are not very battery friendly unfortunately. Read reviews as I found they will kill a battery after a few hours if the vehicle is not running. Probably a great idea for keeping things cool while you are driving.

I have a dedicate ARB fridge but may jump on this also. Perhaps when used in tandem with a good solar setup on a trailer it may work OK.

Thanks, that's what I figured but I'll give it a shot anyway- it's probably an upgrade to my basic 5 day cooler.

Here's some info about fridges

I have a coleman like this, I like it. It can freeze stuff when used indoors, but it takes awhile, like 48 hours.
It keeps stuff cool when used in the truck in cool weather, but it does pull a lot of power so you don't want to leave it on overnight.

Sorry for the late response - yes these are dedicated thermoelectric coolers that either run on or off - they don't cycle like compressor fridges. They are essentially 'dumb' - they've got their fan and they run cooling the inside. I've used mine off road and camping prior to buying a dedicated fridge and it's always been fine while wheeling. It will kill your battery overnight running fulltime with the engine off, however.

They are cool coolers though - I just upgraded (and it's a big, vast, expensive difference in upgrading from a $100 thermoelectric cooler to a $800-1,000 real fridge/freezer).

you are second in line - i have a first buyer that if he doesn't show up this weekend I'll PM you if you are still interested.

Sure, let me know! For the asking price I'll give it a shot otherwise I've had my eyes on the Edgestars.
