Agreed. Im on the computer 12-14 hours a day as it is. If i wanted to talk to someone from russia, I could just join a chat room. But It would feel much more 'earning' if i could do it from something I put together or via antenna.

using the internet to span the distance loses it's appeal once you've experienced HF and you realize you could do the same with...well,...the internet.

if I could have your input on something else here. As far as antenna goes. If i end up getting a 8800 for the moment. Is this antenna adequate?

Or should I get something for all bands, and spend the extra $30-$40.

Thanks for your time.

The 8800 only works 2m and 440. That antenna includes 220 but would be of no use to you with the 8800. I'd probably look at either the Diamond 7500 or 7900. I belive they're either 1/2 or 5/8 wave. For the most part, on FM, the only two bands being used broadly are 2m and 440 (70cm).

I would really like my antenna to be on my roof. But my Wilson 1000 is drilled there. There is a 1/4 inch hole, so i will have to find an antenna mount / antenna that will work with that big of a whole. I still have my firestik II coax and mount in my truck bed. So having a CB wont be a problem. Just finding a mount that will work with a 1/4" hole in my roof. I'll have to head to HRO this weekend and see what they offer. Hopefully I wont have to plug it and drill again. two holes within less than an inch of eachother bothers me, especially on a 2005 truck im still making payments on :-\

I've decided to go with the 7900 for now. Till I get my General.

Im going to be losing my Wilson 1000 CB antenna. switching Back to the Firestik II in the garage.

I am going to try and make the SO239 connector, and coax able already placed in my truck from the roof (wilson 1000 so239 & coax) to use w/ the Comet SBB-7 Antenna.

Looks like this, but with star grooves to cut into the trucks frame for grounding:

If your CB is already mounted on the center of the roof, I'd leave it there....it needs all the help it can get. As for mounting the dualband......don't overthink or over-engineer it. Get one of the Diamond K400 lip mounts and mount it as high as you can, make sure the mount is well grounded and run with it...it'll do just fine for what it is. It's very unlikely you'll perceive any difference in performance no matter where you mount it.
