2003 Mitsubishi Montero 20th Anniversary Edition
Location: Centennial, Colorado
3 Owner (including myself) California car up until May 2020. Rust free! Second owner had it for less than a month before selling to me.
Asking $7,500. $6,500 if you bring your own wheels/tires.
Price is reflective of the fact that it needs valve stem seals ($2-3,000 job), otherwise I’d be asking $10,000. Or DIY for 1/4 the price.
190k miles. Runs great, will take you anywhere (just watch the oil). Interior is in good shape and exterior is ok as well. Some trail stripes. I have the third row as well, which I will reinstall for you. I use the third row hideaway well for recovery gear. Transmission has been replaced and has 115k miles, with receipts. Only OEM/Aisin sp3 fluid has been used in this unit. Timing belt/water pump/tensioner etc were done with OEM/aisin parts 25k miles ago, with receipts. Spark plugs also done at that time. She’ll get 17-18mpg highway all day long if you keep her around 65. I have two furry, four-legged companions so if that concerns you, you’ve been warned. I do try to keep a clean ship, and would vacuum thoroughly before a sale.
Feel free to peruse my build thread here on ExPo for a ton more details "Sedole's Gen 3 - The Iron Hog"
The goods/extras:
-Bilstein 4600 all around
-OME light duty springs up front
-OME medium duty springs in the rear
-4.90 gears
-Hybrid LSD rear end (both viscous and torsen)
-TRD Pro wheels
-34/10.5r17 BFG KO2 tires with only ~6k miles on them
-Yellowbox speedo corrector (speedometer is dead accurate)
-Uhaul hitch (lowest profile aftermarket hitch)
-Sliders (made myself — not meant for pure rock sliding, but can still lift a corner of the rig with them)
-Steel skids (made myself — tough)
-Steel bumper (made myself — for liability reasons, this is purely cosmetic and I do not condone recovering off it)
-LED spots on the bumper and LED amber fogs in the bumper
-Apple CarPlay headunit w/ amp and 8” subwoofer
-Rear view camera
-Magnaflow muffler (lower profile)
-Remote start
-All weather floor mats
-You literally will not find another Montero that looks like this (or you could get a toyota and be another cog on the machine)
The not so good:
-You don’t own it yet!
-Valve stem seals need replacing ($2-3,000 job or DIY for 1/4 the price)
-Rear heater core is clogged (causes the front heater to blow not as hot. I still drive this rig from time to time, so I'll probably bypass it before it sells.)
-Sunroof doesn’t open (motor is likely loose which is an easy documented fix)
-Horn pad is stuck on (I’ve pulled the fuse, also easy documented fixes for this)
-Driver side valve cover seeps a tiny bit (pretty negligible)
-Edit: just realized from the pictures that the driver steering rack boot appears torn, so there's that as well.
