For sale:
Smittybilt WASP $100, local sale only-Boston area (can meet up in Dedham, Waltham, Framingham). These can be bought off Amazon for ~$175 shipped, so not worth it for anyone to want this one shipped (it's ?40-50 lbs), and I'd rather not anyways.
I bought this off of Craigslist late last year when I bought some other recovery equipment, comes with its storage bag.
It appears new (not used), and the seller stated they had never tried it. I was going to give it a test down at Appalachian Rendevous, but never did. It's unlikely I'd ever need this (or similar) type of anchor given the overlanding I like to do.
User Flyingwil of Sierra Expeditions has a very nice write-up of a test they did with one of these vs a pullpal, and how the WASP failed (miserably).
Testing Pull-Pal Alternative: Smittybilt W.A.S.P. (Winch Anchor Support Platform)
My thoughts on this unit were to give it another test, perhaps having to give it some "help" to start-ie use a shovel to dig a deeper set hole, etc.
Anyways the buyer should beware & perform there own testing PRIOR to needing it for self recovery. Solo, I would imagine a wireless winch controler would be needed.
Pics to follow of the actual unit, probably not 'till Monday/Tuesday though.
