Stewart & Stevenson M1079 work in progress $30,000.00
I am putting feelers out on my M1079... Due to health issues, I am not going to be able to finish this in time to use it.
I was building into an Overlanding Vehicle as you can tell from the photos i am posting...
First I will post the good and what I have done.. then the bad...lol
GOOD:
it is Titled as a MotorHome in NYS... this was not easy to do
with 6500 miles on it
it runs great and shifts great
4 drive tires in awesome shape
all gauges and electrical work
added new LED headlights
put in NEW airbags for front cab... old ones were dried out
put on a new door handles with keyed locks
new cab release lock... old one was leaking
greased entire truck
flushed trany new fluid and transfer case as well (they share the same fluid)
changed all oil in hubs and diffs
added a 4.5ft extension to back after removing rear doors
added a side door and made a new ladder to enter (door is not screwed in all around or sealed, waiting for paint first)
added a 55gal grey tank to where the exhaust was ( exhaust was cut and turned as re-welded and hose extended)
added a roof rack for cab with side ladders and brush guard on front ( all of this has been removed and painted in Black and waiting to go back on after truck has been painted)
roof painted in white reflective rubberized coating.. on the box and extension.. 2 thick coats
removed side pickup points to save weight.. along with all the steel plates on the inside of box and all wiring except for the rear safety light wiring.
i have diamond plate lock boxes for under the box and a propane locker that will be installed after paint.
BAD:
there is a water leak around the inside plates on the front of the box where they are screwed in...some water gets in during bad rain... i was going to seal these after the plates come off to be cut for AC and Stove vent... not a big deal.
still have to install the safety marker lights to the extension... i have them, but waiting to paint first
still have to install the exterior molding for the extension... also waiting on exterior paint first
this truck has straight cut gears and is loud... so i planned to do extensive soundproofing to the cab.
spare tire is bad... plenty of tread but has cracks in it... that needs to be replaced.
CTIS not working... all lights flash red? there are no air leaks i even had to add new check valves to the system as the breaks were leaking when i got it and all air lines work as they should and put new air release valves on the three tanks.
and lastly but not least... i feel the front hub gears need to be re-shimmed.. i was told there is nothing wrong with them and the noise when you take your foot off the accelerator is normal... i feel that it can still be better, but there is no one near where i live to do this... so it was on my list of things to do, once on the road. i have hear them on other trucks and some are quieter than mine and i would love to get them as quiet as possible.
OTHER: i have water tanks and many other parts for this build that all come with the purchase. and a set of sand tracks that i was going to mount on the front bar that goes between the brush guards.
I will try and add as many photos as I have for now… thanks for looking.
i can only add 10photos here
but will see if i can add more somehow... and the truck has been sanded in prep for paint as well...not seen in these photos...
this is the side stairs for the door in box... still have to add plates for steps and i also have levelers for the bottoms.
