Perpetual Transient
I just returned from a 2 week work trip to Saas-Fee, Switzerland. We were doing training camp for final preperations before the first World Cup race. I snapped some shots randomly throughout the trip to try and give a bit of a "through my eyes" perspective of the experience. We had the tech team at this camp which are the girls who race the slalom and giant slalom disciplines for those not in the know with alpine skiing lingo. We were fortunate with great weather for most of the trip with the last day getting nasty. Whiteout conditions and high winds closed the glacier and on a mini expedition to retrieve our gear off the mountain via a snowcat, one of my coworkers managed to break the windshield of the cat with his head as the cat got lost in the whiteout and drove off a steep ledge then slid down the glacier before stopping abrubtly and a catwalk. Other than that it was fairly uneventful! Here are some pictures...
The town of Saas-Fee viewed from the lower tram. Interesting note, no gas vehicles are allowed, so most everyone is on foot, bike, or electric cart/cars.
Some cool old building scattered about the village...
View of the gorge that cuts through town, very cool.
Blue sky breaking through
A great deal of effort is put forth into packing and unpacking constantly, we travel with ALOT of equipment. I thought this was a cool shot of us all jetlagged and trying to move gear.....
Julia taking off from the gate training giant slalom
After taking to trams followed by an underground train, you arrive around 11,000 feet to this view..
And this one
The glaciers in the Alps can be kind of hit and miss with snow conditions. There had been plenty of fresh snow this fall so actually the surface was a bit soft. This is Megan McJames behind a wall of white as she arcs a turn over the super steep breakover on the Stylehung run.
