Southern NM Weekend

Another great weekend exploring and introducing new folks to the Sacramento Mtns here in Southern NM. Last weekend myself and several members of the West Texas/Southern NM Chapter of Military Jeepers got together for a Beat the Heat Run up in the mountains. Temps hovered around 70 while down in the basin it was in the upper 90s. Chris one of the founders of Military Jeepers just happened to be in AZ on leave and was able to come over and join us (he has never had a chance to explore the Southwest) and he as well as all others had a great time.
We stayed mainly on the western side of the range and made camp on one of the several secluded mesas overlooking the basin and mountains to the west.

The line up down at the meeting point.

After a full day of exploreing it was back to camp for a great feast of ribs and all the fixins. As well as an evening of sitting around the campfire enjoying beverages and great conversation.

Love NM. I'm always glad to see pictures and trip reports from out there. Glad y'all had a good time. Good to see our military folks out having a good time!

Thanks for sharing! :)

nice run and thanks for keeping New Mexico on our minds....here in Arizona many of us forget our eastern play area :)
I dig it when the weather threatens but never hits, that makes for great sky images but no hassle to the camping.

Oh and the waterfall was a cool feature!

Cool report, I enjoyed the images. :sombrero:

I'm surprised how red the dirt is in some of the pics, but then again I've never visited southern NM, only the northern parts. It's just across the way from west TX though (which has plenty of red dirt), so I guess that makes sense.

Quite a bit of it here in southern NM, makes a nice contrast against the green in the mountains.

Hey I go there quite often myself. I'm out here in El Paso...I was actually planning to hit the trails there last weekend but changed my mind at the last minute and headed west toward the Gila forest around Silver City, NM instead...

So was this around Cloudcroft?

Yes, just down the mountain from Cloudcroft, however the waterfall is about 15 miles south.
