On the way to Cruise Moab, Overland Journal will be running a fun adventure in the ARB Tacoma and Expeditions West Tacoma, starting in Mexican Hat and going through Valley of the Gods to Butler Wash and north into Cottonwood Wash and Elk Ridge. We will make camp in the mountains. Early Wednesday we move further north into Ruin Park and finish on Elephant Hill. We will be in Moab by 3-4:00 PM.

Meet at 7:30 am in Mexican Hat (we will be camping in the area) for best light start. Lots of time spent on images.

Come along!

Excellent! We'd join you but we're already headed to Dark Canyon 5/4-5/7 :p...and then out the same route :D. Probably would require a bit of acrobatics to get those days off :(.

Will you guys be in/around Moab over the weekend?

That area is beautiful. If you get a chance I highly recommend Lavender Canyon. Very few visitors. It is just off of 211 before you hit the Canyon Lands Boundary. A good map for this is NG Trails Illustrated 210.

Also, Salt Creek is very fun with some nice driving down a very washed out creek that usually has water. At the end where there is a gate there is some rock art. Park by one of the Camp sites at Peekaboo (permit required to camp, only three sites, No one was back there when we went). Once there hike up the trail leading straight to the ridge. There is the art. The trail cuts through an arch to the other side of the ridge. It is rather like finding a passage way to the "Land of the Lost".

Next is the Colorado Overlook Road leading from the visitors' center. We have ridden this on our mountain bikes. Not an overly difficult or long ride. The views a stunning at the end.

Even if you don't need supplies or gas I suggest you stop by the Outpost. They are very friendly. I usually stop by and fill up and get a soda and snack.

So as I packed up to leave Los Angeles it's has been a torrential downpour all morning. My cell phone died. and I have no idea where my wallet is...

Can't wait to get outside.
