Spectrum Digital Imaging ?

So I'm really new to the whole GPS and mapping software gig. Does anyone know anything about Spectrum Digital Imaging? I'm particularly interested in the NWT and high Arctic maps - basically everything I've read says you have to use them with Ozi - is that so? Also since it appears to be a bit of a jump up from the current gps stuff I have at the moment - can anyone recommend a good setup to use with it? I have access to hard copy maps and always carry a regular compass as well as my trusty E-trex - but since I'm using the basic etrex I can't download maps to it.

Looking at either building a carputer or rigging up another laptop to use with a remote GPS antenna. Does anyone know if the larger boat GPS antennas have any additional benefits (range, coverage etc) than say an earthmate?

I'm interested to see this discussion develop. I am also planning to use a portable computer for running maps in the truck. I already have DeLorme Topo USA and I plan to get Ozi and DeLorme Street Atlas 2007 as well.
