Sportsmobile: Diesel E Series ends Nov.17

I received a call from Alan Feld, advising that the last day to order a 6.0L Diesel Sportsmobile will be about Nov. 15. The gas motors will still be available.

IMO, these are the best mid-sized expedition campers in the US, and the diesel motors will run on world-wide diesel sources. There is no current (reliable) information on another diesel being available.

We used a diesel SMB last year to travel in Copper Canyon.

If you want one of these, I would give Sportsmobile a call ASAP. . .

Looks like ford is going to build all of the 6.0 liter diesels before calendar year 2009 ends. Clean-air regulations will be ratcheted up on January 1, 2010. Diesel-powered pickups (and vans) built after that date will have to have engines that reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 90 percent from today’s standards and by 96 percent from 1994 standards.

That being said, Ford has a new 6.7 liter diesel to meet the new regulations. This will be for the 2011 model year. If you need a NEW sportsmobile in the next year or so, probably good to get an order in (with sportmobile or your local dealer).

It is a shame none of the new diesel engines will fit in the E series vans.

This was one of the reasons I wanted to move quick on a Disabled Explorers SMB, gotta love the range of a diesel :)

Let's watch used E series diesel prices go through the roof!!! They're already hard enough to find.

I doubt I will ever sell my SMB but it is good to know it will have more value than ever :)

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
They are still all over the Utah classifieds and relatively cheap. It is sad to see the diesel E series vans go away, at least for now if they never come back.
