Spring lift for WJ

hey

What manufacturers make a "Hockey puck" spring lift for a 99 wj, I'm wanting about 2 inch lift. Once in place do you think a 265/70/16 tire will fit? it has 245/70/16's on it now and I can get those in a mud-tire. I think the 265/70/16 would look better. what do you think it would take to get my 235/85/16's on it (32 inch)? Thanks for the suggestions.

Look up Jeep WJ suspension lifts and I'm sure you'll find quite a bit of info....

(hockey pucks - aka coil spacers)

I've found 2" budget boost lifts for WJ's on the following sites

rocky-road.com
ironrockoffroad.com
kevinsoffroad.com
rustysoffroad.com

and I'm sure there are others I haven't heard of yet...but lots of the Jeep experts here will offer good advice too!

I have a 2" on my WJ and it clears 31's fine...although my wheels have a pretty good offset which required some fender trimming. I'm going to bump up to a 4" lift very soon...but will keep the same tires & wheels.

Depending on what kind of wheeling you plan on doing....I would actually recommend all terrains over mud terrains...your rig won't lose its great driveability while on the highway...but will still do what you want off road too.

Good luck to you!

Hey

ringin10,

Who's 2" budget lift do you have? I would ike to go to a 235/85/16 which is 32" so I'm not sure if 2" would allow enough clearance. If not then I will go to the stock 245/70-75/16 in an off-road tire. I don't plan on anything too radical; it just that I see some pretty muddy area's in spring. Thanks for the info.

www.ironrockoffroad.com If you wanna go w/ 265's or even 235/85, then I would suggest their 3" at the least and bumpstop extensions to prevent too much rubbing. That's what I have. You'll see my WJ on the 3" kit page. I went w/ 3" b/c I hate budjet-boosts (hockey-pucks), I wanted a lot more articulation(WHICH I DEF. GOT), and it was much more affordable than the 4" w/ a better ride. I'd also seriously reccomend long-arms if you go to 4"+ as well as sway-bar disconnects in the front and an Addco 1" sway bar in the rear. They'll give you much more comfort and drivability on and off road regardless of what lift you get. Ironrock has great customer service. Call them and they'll be glad to teach you and take the time to answer all your questions.
If you're stuck on getting a 2" spacer lift, then they're all pretty comprable and will work just the same. Check out mallcrawlin.com for a lot of WJ info. Snoop around and search on there.

Lemme know if you have any other q.'s. It's how I learned. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more about the great customer service @ ironrockoffroad.com I just bought the 4" WJ kit (without the shocks) last night and they're going to ship it today! I must have sent 5 or six emails with random questions regarding this lift and my Jeep....and Josh over there was not only prompt in his email answers back to me....he sounded (can you "sound" in an email? Anyway....) genuinely interested in answering my questions before I even mentioned I was considering buying anything from anyone, much less ironrockoffroad.com.

Yeah....the budget boost doesn't allow much articulation at all. Not that I'm doing any severe rock climbing in my daily driver....but c'mon now....we all like to get our rigs off the pavement & have some fun, right? If you're looking to stay on pretty level ground, and want a little extra ground clearance...the 2" will do just fine with 31's.

I'm real excited about the new addition that will be added to my WJ!

Hey

WJinTRSC,

Did you buy any optional items with yours and have you had any driveline issues since. I talked to a guy (2002 overland ) who had someone elses 4" lift and about 6 months after installation he said things became very unstable at highway speeds, with lots of vibration. The installer never could get it figured out, he went back to the original parts. What size tires are you running on yours? Gas Mileage change? What engine do you have? (i've got the 4.7L v8. About what did the install run you; at least they they are within driving distance, as I'm outside Kansas City, KS. (about 9hrs.). I just may have to call them. Thanks for the heads up.

Ringin10,
It's always good to hear about a business who takes and knows what Customer service is.

Thanks Guys

Sorry I haven't checked ExPo lately. Yeah, I got the 3" kit w/ upgraded shocks, JKS sway-bar Disconnects in front, 1" Addco rear swaybar, bumpstop extensions, and Tenneco steering stabilizer. The guys w/ bad vibration and death-wobble tend to get it b/c of the SS. That's why I went ahead and got it w/ the kit. Never had any vibration at all and I installed the kit in May 2007 and it's had a lot of highway and wheelin miles on it since then. I use it hard and rely on it. No driveline issues either. Also, retorquing bolts will resolve DW. Sometimes they'll get a lil loose somewhere and that vibration gets started w/ just one bolt being loose.

Feel free to call Josh at Ironrock w/ any questions. Tell him that Karl from SC referred him to ya. I actually just emailed him this wkend. I wanted to retorque everything, just in case, but I couldn't find my torque spec.'s they sent me. I emailed him late Friday night and I had them Sat. morning. That's part of the reason I used Ironrock. Customer Service matters when you need help.

Good luck and lemme know if you have any more q.'s!

Oh yeah, btw, I installed the lift myself. I'd suggest you do the same. It doesn't take much beyond a decent metric set of sockets/wrenches, torque-wrench, deadblow/BFH, jack and jack-stands, and basic tools. You can loan spring compressors from Advance Auto for free. Just make sure to get the Strut compressors in stead of Coil spring compressors. Trust me! If you do the install, you have more pride in it, you know your own suspension better in case something does break or have an issue, and you save a lot of money. It's really not difficult if you've got a buddy and the provided instructions are really good. This was the first lift I ever did and I did it w/ a buddy in two evenings after work.
Gas mileage went down with the new tires a bit. City is generally 13.5-14. Hwy; I can get up to 16 if I watch my rpm's and really watch it. It's still very driveable though regardless of where I am and comfortable for passengers. I also have the 4.7.
