For those that have done one how hard are they to do youself? Im pretty handy and very mechanicaly inclined. I have a M416 That i need to do a spring over on it but just want to know how hard it is to do. Anything i will need specifically or anything i should know?

If you can operate a tape measure accurately and can weld - it is fairly easy. You will need to place and weld new spring perches on which is a pretty straight forward process.

You can do a spring over on a M-416 without welding new spring perches. As far as difficulty, it is not very complicated. The stock shocks will not work with a spring over. So you would need to weld new shock mounts or find shorter shocks.

Hey socal, Is it as simple as just removing the u bolts and what not and moving the axle under the springs and reinstalling the u bolts?

not 100% sure on the 416 but on my m101. it took me 1 1/2 hrs using hand tools .. piece of cake.. i did need to make a new plate for the brake cables cuz they ended up about 1'' too short. i just flipped the trailer over.. pulled out the axel flipped and rotated it then bolted it back together

Yes (again, just a matter of addressing shock mounts).

Suggestion - These trailers are old. Have some PB Blaster and a MAPP gas canister (torch) on hand when you get ready to remove the U-bolts. Personally, I'd replace the U-bolts in the process.

Easy to flip the axle for a spring over. Will need shorter shocks (no problems will be encountered) and I suggest new U bolts. No welding is required and even the hand brake will still work. Did this 16 years ago.
