ST Maxx--235/85/16 vs 265/75/16

This is my truck with the 265/75's but I'm thinking about going with 235/85's

Any thoughts on this? The ST Maxx's in 235/85r17 are 5lbs lighter but are essentially the same height. 31.8" vs 32" and the tire is 1" narrower

Less u sprung weight is a good thing and it's easier on components and I don't mind a narrower tire. Anybody running 235/85's on a tundra?

I think there is someone here running LT255/85R16 ST/Maxx tires on a Tundra who has reported good results. I narrowed the choices for my Xterra to the ST/Maxx in LT255/85R16 and LT265/75R16. Although the 255/85R16 was my first choice, I purchased 265/75R16 because the price difference at the time was about $75/tire.

I did that for all the same reasons you mentioned (actually tried four different tire sizes and tires) and found the 235/85s (16" rims) to be too skinny, looked weird to me from certain angles. I didn't notice much of a difference in MPGs, they also seemed to dart around on the highway more. Eventually I went to the 265s and sighed a sigh of relief after finally arriving at the size and tire that suited me and the truck. The Tundra is a much bigger vehicle and especially if you lift it the 235s will look out of place on it. IMHO I'd stick with the 265s you have (they look almost new anyway) or may even consider the 275 (17" rims) or 285s with a lift. The drivetrain and the V8 won't notice any difference from the actual weight of the tires, if anything it'll be from the diameter.

Thanks! That's the insight I was looking for. This pic is from when I out them on last spring and 2 tires need to be replaced via warranty from sidewall punctures so I'll only pay for 2 for a new set of 4. I'll stay with 265's a I will have 2 great spares now

Thanks!
