starter motor in 200tdi Def 110

Hey folks,

I think I need to change my starter motor solenoid.

I have a RHD 1993 D110 200tdi. The starter is really buried in there, under the manifold and turbo.

Anybody have any idea how many hours labour to estimate to remove and reinstall the starter for this engine?

Don't really want to work in it in the mud and snow in front of the house so I will probably drive to town and take it to a shop. It would be good to have a starting point for negotiations...

Its less than an hours work,

use a long extension on the socket, and remove the wires once its out.
after disconnecting the battery.

I think you are quicker than me. It'll take me 30 mins just to disconnect all my batteries...

Cheers though, and thanks for the quick reply.

The hardest part is that the exhaust is in the way and the stock pipe cannot be removed. If it is LHD, it is much harder than RHD... You can get the starter up and out by disconnecting the downpipe and moving it as far as possible out of the way.

ditto what he said. The bolts are not easily reached but the job is fairly straight forward. I have a tdi starter here some where that needs a solenoid so if you find a vendor who sells them please share. My truck was lhd and I had to drop the down pipe as described.

Turns out it was the ignition switch after all.

For you guys looking for a solenoid, have you taken the dead solenoid into Lordco to see if they could match it?
