Strong 17" aluminum wheel

I need a stronger wheel, the stock wheels on my commander suck. i have broken the lip on the outside of 3 wheels, they went over a few rocks, and didn't hold up at all. i'm afraid the wheels will eventually fail.

our commander weighs about 6000# fully loaded with all our gear.

the brakes are very large, and a 17" wheel barely clears the brake calipers in the front and back.

we don't need bead locks, the tires stay on when aired down to 15 psi. and thats as low as we need to go on a C range tire and 6000#'s

i need a 17" wheel with a 5x5 pattern and ~ 3" backspacing.

thanks

Would a Wrangler wheel work?
I have the "Moabs" on my 07 Rubicon Unlimted and have been pretty happy with them.

Walker Evans Racing. They make bead lock or street lock models. All bolt patterns and custom backspacing. Weight rated to 3800 pounds each.

Those have been cracking on some people on the JeepForum.

I've been thinking about the American Racing Teflon. I'm still a few months away though.
Doesn't hurt that I can get them at employee price; I used to work for the company that recently bought American Racing.

Looking for alloy or steel?

If steel, there's lots of stuff out there which you already know I'm certain.

If alloy, I dunno, something that is forged or billet I guess.

Apparently ProCrap makes a forged wheel (google). Lots of local guys like their tires. Maybe their wheels are ok. Being ProComp they'll be relatively cheap. I'm not a fan (bad personal history with their other parts) so don't take this as a recommendation.

I'm going to guess ARE, Cragar, etc. have equivalent stuff as well.

Edit: Thes Alcoa's look cool and will look good on a XK as well.

I'm running Alcoa forged Classic 1's on my TJ and I know folks who have run the same rim in a 17" size. My TJ is no lightweight either and especially so when I have my AT Horizon hooked up to it.

Even though mine are beadlocked, they have seen some serious rock abuse and have held up just fine. I don't know about your application but if you can find them in the correct backspacing, then that would be my recommendation.
