For 2014, Subaru has announced a hybrid version of the Crosstrek subcompact SUV. The hybrid adds an electric assist to the standard 2.0L engine with CVT. Cost of the hybrid is $27k, about $1500 more than a comparably equipped Crosstrek Limited.
The electric assist has the biggest effect in city driving, raising fuel economy estimates from 25 to 28 mpg. Could be helpful during slow trail driving. Highway mpg improves from 33 to 34 mpg.
