Since all of our plans got completely hosed the past weekend the lady friend and I decided to head out to Sunflower Mine and since the FJ did not have near enough pin stripping, we decided to take it. She did all the driving and I did nothing more than sit back and enjoy the scenery and the occasional spotting. It was a great day to be out there and the stream was running like a flipping river. We only ran to the mine and back, which once again shows it can be done in a complete stock FJ with rock rails, and a locker. The entire loop is pretty crazy stuff and should only be attempted with a lift, locker, rock rails, off road tires, and skids. Here are some pics:

Here are some scenery pics from the day. Lighting was kinda bad but it gives you an idea of how beautiful it is out there.

Sweet. I love seeing current pics of the Sunflower mine area. When I lived in Phx years ago, I spent a lot of time playing in that area. It's interesting to see how it's changed over the years. Looks like a fun day. Thanks for posting.

I really like this area too. Especially since I can get there in under an hour from my door step. There is also lots of great camping to be had in the area as well. The mine seems to be breaking down faster and faster. Partially due to the no-talent-MMM-clowns that are helping it along. That's a topic for another day... The trail is suffering pretty bad as well. We ran the entire loop about a month ago in the Frontier and the trail is in need of some serious maintenance. There are a few parts of the many shelf roads that have been washed away enough to significantly raise the pucker factor. Thanks for checking out the photos!

Nice pics of what looks like a beautiful day out!

Absolutely! High temps for the day in the area were around 52 with only a very slight breeze, can't ask for much better than that! Did the entire trail with the windows down. :)
