Super Score!

I took the landy out a few weeks ago checking out the surf. As I was rolling through one of the beach parks a guy stopped me and asked if I needed any land rover parts (duh, always) He tells me one of his renters has a series that hasn't been driven in years and I can have it if I haul it away!
I go over to the house and the truck has been dismantled for the most part w/ some parts already gone. But what I am getting for free (I need to buy him a twelve pack or something at least, I feel guilty.) f & r axles, engine, gearbox, and tcase, tropical top, seat box, and tub. All of these parts have been sitting outside about 10meters from the beach so are corroded accordingly. However inside of his garage (with huge holes in the roof) is the big score.....a brand new galvanized frame that he bought but never did anything with it!
Oh, and also he has a ratty SI Disco that he says needs clutch hyd lines that I can have too.
I didn't get to surf that day but things turned out okay :D

I had something similar happen a few years back. I discovered a 1971 IIa in in a driveway a few blocks away from home. The owner said he would take $500 for it. I snapped it up and because it was not in the greatest of condition I parted it out and made a couple thousand dollars on it. The money I made helped me buy my D130.

Dang, I've gotta spend more time "checking out the surf"!

Its always nice to score some free stuff but be careful if the stuff is not his but belongs to a "renter". Just because the landlord wants it gone doesn't mean the owner won't come after you with a club or worse a gun.

You owe him more than a 12 pack, more like a case of whatever his favorite distilled adult beverage may be! What a find....

Here's a few photos as I bring it home in stages. So far I've just brought the tub, top, and doors home.

He gave me the engine hoist too!

I decided to make these stands for my tops. It gives me a little bit of storage space and just keeps the parking a bit neater.

If it gets windy there you'll want to put a lag bolt in each corner to hold them down. The isn't really light, but a good stiff wind could shift it enough to fall.

Nice score, especially the frame. Reminds me of the fellow Rover owner who walked in to a Dodge dealer in ME in the late 70's and was asked if he wanted an old Land Rover engine free for the hauling away. Turned out to be a brand new 2.25 diesel.

More unsloicited advice.....you want two bolts in those corner joints or some interlocked diagonal braces so your stands don't fold up on you.
