Suspension travel question

So Im starting to plan a trailer build with an independent suspension. Im not looking for those in favor, against, or anything else. Im going to do an AT/Aussie style set up. I have everything spec'ed out and most are purchased or in my possession. 6K axle, D2600 airbags, ProComp shocks.
So here is my question: With my geometry, and steel sizes my shocks will be the limiting factor in suspension travel. About 6.5 inches, which seems ok to me. My truck has about 8" (Tundra). What would the best split of up and down be? 4/2.5, 3/3.5 etc. Is there a reason to split it even or anticipate the need for more up vs down. Just curious to see what the consensus, if there is one, is.

Sounds like an interesting build. Curious why the 6K axle and the heavy duty air springs? How big is the trailer going to be and what are you carrying?

Its going to be 12' x7', with a collapsible top. Similar to an Alaskan/Kimberley. Shaped like the Conqueror UEV, only with a hard pop top. Actuators and swipe seals. My spreadsheet shows it to weigh about 3000# dry, so I figure that could get over 4000# which is what the 2500 airbags are rated for so thats why I bumped up. Not sure how much weight I can cram into a small 12' trailer.

Martyn, would I be better with the 2500 at their capacity vs the heavier bags? Not sure if the ride will change significantly.

Trailers do seem to be packed full, so if you work on that premise and fill every nook and cranny it's going to be heavy. I don't think the heavy duty air bags are overkill or will have any negative effect on the ride. Keep us all posted with pictures of your build.
