Synthetic Winch Line....how do you stop it slipping!

Hello all, I have a Smittybilt x20 winch with the synthetic line.
I cannot for the life of me get the damn thing to NOT slip on the drum.
Whats the secret, I understand its all based on friction of a few turns on the drum...thats fine except it still slips.
I have loaded it under tension using the vehicles weight, short of doing this on a hill....Im out of ideas.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

An 8 wrap minimum works for me on a Warn 15k. Never had a problem at that. I'm using 7/16 rope on the Power Wagon's winch.

I want to say when I put my Jeepswag synthetic line on, the instructions just said to put a few wraps of electrical tape around the end and the drum, and then start feeding it on...I've also seen set screws that attach the very end to the drum. Perhaps that little bit of terminus is enough to cinch down those initial wraps. I'm trying to remember as it was several years ago.

I had that happen, just gave it some slack, wound a few more wraps on the drum, and it took hold. I did this under tension, E-brake holding and pulling uphill. Seems like it took about 3/4 of the way across the drum wrapped before it really clamped on.

My line is not secured by any mechanical means, I started it using electrical tape, but that broke loose when it slipped during spooling. The line didn't fall off though, so long as it has plenty of wraps. Try to get it as tight as you can in those first wraps, you can add pressure as more wraps are on.

But no mechanical attachment means easy re-spooling if it ever needs it in the field. I have electrical tape on board, I can re-spool that winch anywhere.

Not just plain electrical tape, use the sticky rubber stuff. You still need at least four or five wraps of line on the drum though.....and tension it as much as possible for those first wraps.

Wind it up under load for the first wrap of the drum. Also, use one with a set screw eyelet clamped on the end of the rope.
