tachometer comes and goes

I changed out my water pump a couple of weeks ago, and since then my tach comes and goes. Does anyone have a clue what could be causing it and the water pump might have had anything to do with it? I don't see where the two could be related but the timing is there. Any help would be great guys thanks.

You could very well have disturbed a wire on the alt. check all those connections.

A bad alt. or connection causes the tach to fail on these rigs.

If coolant was everywhere its possible that it is corrosion. More times then not this mean the alternator is on its way out.

Now the speedo is acting up and not moving, so I went ahead and made a call and I'm picking up a used alt in the morning.

Just finished swapping alts, now I have a whine and same issue. I think the old alt killed my new battery, going to test it now.

Ok so with the old crappy battery I had a whine but had the tach working, with new batt there's no whine but no tach? I'm perplexed!

I have rechecked the connections on the alt twice and added some electrical grease, I will re recheck the batt connections even though they looked good, anywhere else I should check?

When I got my first Disco, I thought I had a bad alternator. I took it to the shop to have it tested and they said it was 100%. Went back and found out that the belt had been routed wrongly by the previous owner. Very easy to do on these. Problem solved.
