The sticker on a base ACLB 4x4 MT 4 cylinder with the utility package (jump seat delete, black bumpers, etc.) is $24,010. That is what I bought and it is about as simple as a 2016 vehicle gets.

Pretty dang good deal, if you want a no frills truck. Though now-a-days...you get A LOT! on a base model truck....AC, power steering, power windows, power door locks, power brakes, backup camera, etc.

I'm sure 2.7l is solid, but I'd have no trouble trusting the 3.5L or 4.0L to run just as long, with same level of reliability. 2.7's weren't 100% bulletproof.

Agreed. I've been seeing a bunch with timing chain replacement around 150-200k. And frequently needing head rework around 200k. You are pushing the 2.7L really hard with how heavy the truck is - and that's before you add gear. FYI, power to weight ratio is similar to the 80s 4runner with 22re.

I wouldn't worry about it, you should have a couple of spare filters in your spare parts box just as you would for any other vehicle. It's not that you'll necessarily need them but if you should it's better to have them than to have to worry about whether the local shop has something that will fit and what quality it is.
