Tacoma seat covers?

What is everyone using for seat covers?

I like the looks of the Smity Built style seat, but I’m having a hard time finding some that say they specifically fit my 2006 Tacoma and most of the “universal” fit seems to leave large gaps. I’m interested in something made out of a breathable fabric, that covers the seat and back rest surfaces. I’m not a fan of the neoprene, just doesn’t seem like it would breathe enough on long trips. I like the MOLLE system on the back and would like to see more use of the sides, since I don’t have side airbags.

I have had the TRD seat covers (OEM Toyota) on since new, they're great and show little sign of wear and tear after almost 7 years... but the center section is neoprene-ish

The Escape Gear seat covers are bomber, the JK covers fit the TRD seats VERY well. MSA 4x4 makes some nice covers too as does CoverKing.

I too have had the TRD covers for over 100k miles. They were the first thing I bought when I got the truck in Spring of '05. I recently rotated them as the driver's was showing a bit of wear on the outboard side bolster. I have no problem with long drives, heat, humidity, and I'm a schweddy bastard. They clean and dry nicely.

Both seat covers have been subjected to dirt, mud, and the occasional tool in the pocket situation. The Coverking seam to fair better.
Both are comfortable when it is hot and I am sweaty, very breathable.

I'm using Marathon Seat Covers

I've been using Marathon seat covers for the past 2 months. They are a bear to install.

I've subjected them to several trips. They are comfortable and do an excellent job of protecting the seats from spills and dirt.

I've got Wet Okole covers in my truck. I got them through one of the Tacomaworld forum group buys- I think they're running another right now. I had a set on my '95 Taco too, I was doing a lot of kayaking at the time so they were nice for that. They do tend to get hot on long trips, especially if you drive with the AC off.

Got my Marathons last month. Love them so far! Yes, a bit of a PITA to put on, but that's because they're designed to fit tightly.

There's another company called GT Covers that's local to me (Aurora) and I considered them, but I didn't like the slick, plasticky feel of their covers. Also, while they offer a variety of camouflage patterns, they did not offer the one pattern that I want, which is the DCU pattern that was worn by the Army until 2005. I've always liked that pattern, which I wore on 2 deployments to the sandbox.

Nice thing about Marathon is that they offer a lot of options: Pockts of various types, covers for the center console, even side curtain airbag compatibility if you have that. They are a bit expensive (about $250 for the set, including shipping) but they are tough and yet comfortable. So far I'm pretty happy with them.

Those Escape Gear covers look sweet but they don't work with the airbag equipped seats. Does anyone other than Wet Oakle make covers for 08 and up Tacomas?

As previously mentioned, Marathon covers can be made for side-airbag equipped vehicles. If you go to their website it will tell you what is available but AFAIK anything that has been made for the last 20 years or so can be fitted.

One thing to know about Marathon is they don't keep anything in stock, so you will have to custom order and expect at least an 8 week wait. I ordered mine in the 2nd week of July and got them in the 2nd week of September.

Another vote for Marathon Superhides. I have a set of them in 'smoke gray' in my Tacoma. They match the interior color very closely; most people don't realize I have seat covers until I tell them. They fit very well, and after having them for a year and a half, they have held up extremely well. Even with three 50-lb dogs in and out of the back all the time, they look exactly the same as they did when I got them.

However, as mentioned, they are a PITA to install. I ended up removing the front seats for the installation. And they're also expensive. I got extremely lucky and happened to find a set of them used at $250 for fronts and rears in like-new condition. I sent them into Marathon to have the pockets added to the back of the front seats, and it took about 3 weeks.

One downside to having them fit so well (besides the PITA installation) is that it's very difficult to remove them for cleaning.

When I sent my seat covers back to Marathon to have the pockets added to the back of the front seats, I actually talked to them about having MOLLE webbing added above the pockets. They said they wouldn't do anything custom like that, and recommended that I take them to an upholstery shop to have that added.
