I just bought a new-to-me 04' Tundra in the spring of this year - Limited, Ext. Cab, 4x4. I bought the truck as a work truck that would see 95% highway miles. My opinion of the 1st Gen Tundras is similar to what others have already stated: pretty much a 2nd Gen Tacoma sized vehicle, with a V8. After logging 20,000kms (12,500miles) in the last 5 months, I've really come to appreciate this truck. It's interior is comfortable and spacious on LLONNNG drives, and the drivability with the V8 makes for easy passing and driving in general. I'm 6'6" and I never feel cramped. My truck now has 192,000kms (120K miles) and I have 100% confidence in it and know this this will last a long time! I just sold my 3rd gen 4Runner which pretty much has the same cockpit as the 1st gen Tacoma and the same drivetrain. The Tundra is hands down a nicer vehicle to drive on the road and fuel economy on the highway is better in my Tundra (although my 4Runner was hauling around a lot of armor). After selling my 4Runner, I bought a 97' LX450 to use as my offroad/adventure rig (which I love, don't get me wrong...) but I have had several honest thoughts of abandoning my LX450 project and making the Tundra the ultimate do-everything vehicle. I really believe that it's size would be a very small limitation offroad. A bobbed-bed Tundra, with a crawl box, 35's, and beadlocks would be one hell of a ************ truck... even if you decided to stick with the IFS.

The aftermarket support is not as strong with the Tundra, but I do believe it is growing as more people realize the benefits of the it. It's size really is perfect IMO. I know All-Pro is currently releasing bed racks and I believe bumpers for them as well, which is nice to see.
