Tacoma window/door vibration

On my 2009 Tacoma with just under 30,000 miles on it I have had a very annoying vibration in the driver's side door or window. This has been occuring for probably about a year (maybe a bit less) and the truck is only 15 months old. Is anyone else experiencing this? I had similiar vibrations on my 96 Chevy but that truck had a hard life.

There was a plastic piece right next to my left ear that annoyed me. It was that loose plastic bit on the seatbelt slide.

I temporarily stopped the noise by covering it with clear packing tape until I find a cleaner solution.

That is the dreaded window vibration problem..it is fairly common on Tacomas and has a Toyota Service Bulletin to fix it. It is a design flaw in the window seal that vibrates and causes and loud noise inside the cab. I thought the door seals were failing, but it turned out to be the window seal. Mine had it, but the dealer could not replicate it and did not enter it into the computer. I found the TSB myself and went back. My truck was 1k over warranty and they blew me off. They would not fix it. I complained, but it made no difference. I would do the following:

Get to your dealer before your warranty expires.
Make sure he logs it into the computer.
Tell him there is a TSB for the problem.
Here is the number: NV006-07 AUG 07 Body - Windshield Wind Noise at Highway Speeds

You should be good to go after that. It is a very simple fix. They just run a bead of silicon in between the gasket and the truck.

Good luck and I hope this helped.

My truck has a driver side door window rattle...when the window is all the way down, it rattles loudly. When the window is up or partly up, it does not rattle at all.

If you have the same thing, please let me know how you fix it. I was thinking of pulling the door apart and looking for loos screws or broken clips.

Thanks for the help guys. I think ECVMatt pegged the problem. There is no rattle when the window is down (part way or completely). I've had several trucks with that problem. Now I need to decide if I can continue to live with the problem or mess with dealer 200 miles away.

I've got the same thing going on with my drivers side window, except that it's more of a squeaking than a rattle...I'm assuming this is the same problem? I'll wait to see what solution y'all come up with if you DIY.

Thank you. This sounds similar to the issue I'm hearing on my 2010 PreRunner. Does anyone have a photo or short video showing where to apply the bead of silicon? Thank you.

It depends on if the noise is rattling or whistling. The linked TSB is for the gasket between the door and body. You'd want to put silicone I think where the rubber weatherstrip meets the body next to the windshield. The TSB shows the gasket in question.

If it's the window loose in the channel then this won't fix it. My driver's side window is starting to develop a rattle when it's partially rolled down. Solid when it's fully up and closed or fully down in the door. In between it's getting loose. The fix for this is new channel in the window frame and happens eventually just from wear. My 1991 developed the same issues eventually, too, and just had to rebuild the mechanisms. It's not a bad idea to do this anyway to keep them from seizing and take the opportunity to clean and grease the regulators. Those power window motors can do some damage if they jam.
