My dad had a 40th anniversary edition and I thought they only came in specific colors with the two tone leather.. If that's not the case I wonder if it was made in late '96 and sold as a '97 but for the ad they're going off the build date. There was also a Collectors Edition in '97, I think, and it may have come in more colors than the 40th Anniversary, but they would still have to be going off the build date instead of the year model it was sold as.

Not a 40th. They didn't even have build dates in 96

It's not a 40th. They have side cladding, two tone leather, black pearl emblems, climate control, and branded floormats. Even the collecters editions had the cladding and climate control. Oh and they never had them in '96. They didn't even begin making them until the middle of '97 so you won't find a 40th with a '96 build date.

No side claddding on the 80 series ever. Only the Lexus LX450 had the side cladding.

40ths were only 97 model year and if it isn't either the antique sage or the dark green color, doesn't have two-tone leather seats, doesn't have automatic climate control, then it isn't a 40th Edition.

The CE's and 40th had a cladding strip on the side. Not the big cladding on the bottom like the LX450, just a thin plastic strip around the beltline. It's the easiest way to spot one on the street.

Those are door mouldings. Not cladding. The only vehicles imported into the US that had them factory installed were the 40th and the collector.

The front door mouldings on the 40th and Collector are plain, the other one says "FOUR WHEEL DRIVE" in the center section and were dealer installed.

You can call them whatever you want however I would call them a "cladding strip" before I'd call them "door moldings" (considering they are on more panels than the doors). How 'bout a comprimise and we call them "side moldings"?

Regardless of semantics it's pretty clear BreckBJ44 was referring to these.

Thanks!

Also for clarity, you will see other '97s with side door molding cladding strips on the gambit of colors. They had such great reponse on the AE that they issued a collectors edition package. I've seen them on the Burgundy, White and something called Moonglow Pearl that is like a silver lilac grey. I like that one the best.

When I was looking to buy an 80, there were a lot of poeple trying to pass off earlier years as AE trucks by just adding the floor mats. Some people even added the door side parts.

Jerks. (meaning the poor sellers)
