Tall Skinny Tire?

Does any one make a skinny tire in a 35 or 36"? Like 9.5ish? Anyone running a tall skinny tireon a small bodied rig? My 36x12.5 swampers are going to need replacing soon, so I want to see what my options might be? Can anyone post a pic of a rig on 36" skinny tire?

Having spent time in military tires I got ta ask why?
It really don't matter, here you go:

Cause Wide tires suck...

I think around these parts (N. America) the best you can do is the Super Swamper TSL Radial in 35x10.50 or maybe some Michy XML's. Elsewhere in the world you can get some Simex's that are amazing tires off-road in those sizes. It seems as though here in the states as son as you get to 33" tires they all jump to mostly 12.50" wide or more. pretty lame if you ask me, wide tires have a very limited range of usefullness IMO.

Cheers

I think you need to think on your vehicle and terrain you are going to drive in. I personally would not want a 10.50 on my truck, my 12.50 suits me just fine for the desert and soft sand and beaches.

It's actually been proven through research and just plain math/physics that a skinnier tire is far better than a wider tire in every driving condition save deep snow (we're talking multiple feet when you want your vehicle to "float" on top). Outside of deep snow driving, a narrower tire provides better traction and control in all cases, yes, including sand.

Don't believe me? Google it. Many much info out there.

There is some optimum though. Would you use a 2" wide tire?

Actually, if it were possible for it to hold the weight/stress sufficiently, yes. The thing with narrow tires is that it increases the PSI (pounds per square inch) on the contact pattern. Think about a wide tire having a contact of maybe 12 inches wide by 2 inches long, that's 24 square inches to spread out your (lets say you have 2000 pounds sitting on each tire) weight on. Then put that on a 2 inch wide by 2 inch long contact pattern, that's only 4 inches to spread out the weight on. Without doing any big math, you can see that the PSI in the latter case is 6 times more!

Also, for places like sand or shallow snow, think "pizza cutter", with the high PSI it sinks right to the "hard" ground/surface/road underneath.

Yes, narrow tall tires look absolutely horrible, but function better.

I am sorry but I must disagree it totally depends on your vehicle and driving terrain. Google may have it right but my right foot on the gas will always tell me wider is better. If you are talking about a small tacoma okay but a rig loaded with gear I just don't buy it. I would run 9.50 on my jeep but it weighs 3000lb about 1/3 of my truck.

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
I had some Michelin XZL 9.00 R 16 that were 36 by about 10.5. They were great but I feared for my axles, they are basically big rig tires with an off road tread. These are your only options in this size. I personally have been lusting after 255 85 R 16 which are about 34 x 10.5 and come in D and E rated capacities...

Q78 is 35.5x10.5" available from interco or the 9.00r16 michelin. The Q78 has 27/32" tread depth and is available in 15 or 16" wheel size.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info.
I found this pic of a wrangler on Q78's. I like it but was thinking just slightly skinnier (is that a word:) )
