Te Urewera National Park, North Island, NZ

My wife Michelle and I (recent migrants to NZ from Idaho, USA) went on our 1st camping trip in NZ this past weekend.

We travelled through the Te Urewera National Park on the North Island. The park encompasses Lake Waikaremoana (and other lakes) and NUMEROUS waterfalls.

Highlights of the trip included seeing all the natuaral flora / fauna NZ has to offer. Incredibly we saw too many wild horses to count.

The only drawback were the incessant sandflies at dusk and my lack of enough bug spray.

We didn't set up a full camp ont his trip as we travelled through fairly quickly and at a different spot each night. I REALLY want a offroad trailer down here!

1st night in the park:

Nice pics. First I thought, "looks like summer". Then relized, it almost is. Then I thought, "north island?". Yup, upside down from my normal thinking.
